Madrid 2010: Expectations Met

Fedal in Madrid lived up to expectations (except that it finally happened after a year). It was dramatic. There was stellar tennis. It was close [6-4, 7-6 (5)]. The winner/unforced error ratio 34-33 Federer, 27-27 Nadal. Number of points won: 84 Federer, 85 Nadal. It was also nervy: both guys were clearly nervous because they were excited to play each other. On break point conversions, 4/11 for Nadal and 3/11 for Federer. There was drama: Federer apparently whiffed on what looked like a bad bounce on match point.

In the end, the King of Clay triumphed.

Certain segments of tennis fandom are behaving without the class that both of these guys strive for. Well, whatever. Isn't it great that that these two really like and respect each other?

Check out this great get by Rafa that demonstrates his athleticism and his finesse.

Then let the match highlights speak for themselves.
